Halibut Tacos

Halibut Tacos

I love fish tacos.. especially when they are made with halibut. There are so many ways you can prepare the fish for these halibut tacos. You can pan fry the fish (which is the healthier way of doing things) or you can deep fry the fish (which is.. not so healthy). Both ways are delicious!

Ingredients

    Deep Fried:
  • 1 lb halibut boneless, skinless filets (about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup beer (if you are against using beer you can use chicken broth instead)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup Wondra Flour
  • Mix regular flour, beer (or broth), eggs, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Beat together until smooth. Dip fish into batter, then coat in Wondra Flour. Fry at 375 for 6 to 7 minutes. Til golden brown and flakey when you cut into it.
  • Pan Fried:
  • 1 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
  • 1 c. panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 - 1 inch thick Halibut
  • Egg yolks, beaten
  • Mix bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Dip halibut in yolks, press in bread crumbs, then pan-fry on medium heat (not real hot) until cooked through (a few minutes on each side).
  • Toppings:
  • Corn tortillas, softened
  • Cabbage, shredded
  • Cilantro dressing (from our Shrimp Taco recipe)
  • Pico de Gallo (click here)
  • Lime wedges
  • Cilantro sprigs (for garnish)
  • Layer the rest of the ingredients onto the corn tortillas. Serve immediately.

What is Wondra flour? Do you think it could still be just as delicious with a gluten free or rice flour? Looks divine, but I am allergic to wheat and cow cheese.

  2. Wondra flour is a type of flour used for gravies. I am sure any kind of flour you dip it in will be fine! Let me know what you try and how it turns out!

Oh I'm in LOVE with fish tacos! My all-time favorites are from Neil's in Draper, UT. KILLER! Yours looks very similar. I will definitely have to put this on my menu this week.
