Our recipe creates truffles bursting with a luxurious and delightful flavor. Inside, you’ll find a creamy and delicious chocolate filling, all encased in a variety of enticing toppings. You will find yourself craving these easy truffles all year long.

Ingredients

Create the best chocolate truffles recipe with just a few ingredients melted, mixed, and chilled!

  • Chocolate Chips – You want to use good-quality chocolate chips for this chocolate truffle recipe. Put down the store brand, and grab some Ghirardelli, Guittard, or Scharffen Berger. You can also use high-quality chocolate bars. Cut the bars into small pieces and then melt the chopped chocolate the same way as the chocolate chips.
  • Creamy Peanut Butter – My special trick for getting peanut butter out of a measuring cup is spraying the cup with a little cooking spray before adding the peanut butter. It will slide right out!
  • Cool Whip – Make sure to thaw the Cool Whip to room temperature. If it is too cold then it will make the chocolate chunky.

Steps to Make Chocolate Truffles Recipe

  1. Melt – Melt the chocolate chips. You can double-boil them or melt them in the microwave in a heat-proof bowl.
  2. Mix – Stir in the peanut butter and Cool Whip. The mixture will stiffen pretty quickly so stir quickly and make sure to scrape the bottom of the bowl!
  3. Chill – Let the mixture chill in the fridge until it is firm. Usually this takes about 2 hours.
  4. Cookie scoop – Use a small cookie scoop to portion out each truffle and then roll the truffle into a ball in your palms. Then, place the truffles on a baking pan lined with parchment paper.
  5. Toppings – Once all the truffles are rolled, choose your toppings and place them in small shallow bowls. Then, roll each truffle in the desired topping. Store the chocolate truffles in an airtight container in the fridge.

Chocolate Truffles Topping Ideas

The delicious base for these truffles is amazingly delicious on its own. Add in toppings for special occasions, flavors, or holidays. The variations and toppings are endless!

  • Powdered sugar – The sweetness from powdered sugar balances out the flavors and lightens the chocolate flavor.
  • Nuts – Sliced almonds, chopped pecans, chopped hazelnuts, or crushed pistachios give that added texture.
  • Coconut – Raw or toasted adds a beautiful white coloring with a sweet texture.
  • Cocoa Powder – A thin layer of extra cocoa is decadent and beautiful.
  • Candy – Crushed Butterfingers or mini M&Ms are great ways to incorporate your favorite candy pieces.
  • Sprinkles – Make it fun and more eventful knowing who and when you are serving chocolate truffles. For special holidays do pink and red for Valentine’s Day or red and green for Christmas.
  • Mint – Crushed peppermint or crushed Andes mint gives a minty specialty with a chocolate flavor.
  • Chocolate – For all the chocolate lovers out there, melted chocolate like milk, semi-sweet chocolate, white chocolate, and dark chocolate would all be delicious.
  • Oreos – Take a handful of Oreos and crush them for a fun chocolate truffle flavor.
  • Pretzels – Crushed pretzels give a savory and salty flavor.
  • Extracts – If you want to flavor the actual chocolate truffles, then here are some options you can add to the mixture vanilla extract, peppermint, almond extract, or cinnamon.

“What an easy and fun holiday treat! I just love that I can roll, dust, sprinkle with whatever’s available and they’ll all look a little different! Thanks and happy holidays!”

    So delicious!!!
Can they be left out of refrigeration for a day or 2? I’m leaving them out for coworkers at the office … ?

    1. I don’t see why not! Just store them in an airtight container and make sure it is not hot enough melt the chocolate. Hope this helps! Merry Christmas!

    1. Yes, you can use another nut butter, like almond or cashew, or you can use 1/2 cup of softened cream cheese as a substitute. Thanks for asking!

  3. These were so easy to make a looked wonderful. We also rolled them in chocolate and then rainbow sprinkles. We mistakenly used frozen coconut which was too wet to stick so next time I will use regular coconut. Loved the ones rolled in powdered sugar. My family loves peanut butter and these were great, but for non peanut butter lovers as myself, any suggestion for another ingredient that would be something similar without using the peanutbutter? 6. These look great and so easy! I have seen cake truffles and oreo truffles, but never these before. I just might have to try them!
