If you like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain, you’re not alone. Hello! There was an entire song written by Rupert Holmes about the “Escape” this beverage provides. But not everyone is into the added sugar content that sometimes accompanies this sweet drink. Luckily, we have the answer for you.

This Piña Colada Smoothie doesn’t have a lot of processed sugar and it’s full of fruit! The tropical flavors of coconut and pineapple are one of my favorite combinations. It is so tangy and sweet and perfect for the warm weather days, or days you are dreaming of warm weather. It just reminds me of sitting by the pool and soaking up sunshine! I am not a huge fan of drinking coconut water by itself, but when it is blended up in this smoothie I love it! It gives it the perfect consistency and taste.

Ingredients in a Piña Colada Smoothie

This healthy pina colada smoothie is vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, and has only 5 ingredients.

  • Frozen pineapple
  • Coconut water
  • Canned coconut milk
  • Coconut flakes
  • Honey

Substitutions

You can use fresh pineapple in place of the frozen pineapple. Cut the pineapple into chunks and place it in a high speed blender along with a cup of ice. For extra pineapple flavor, make ice cubes with pineapple juice.

Serving Suggestions

  • You definitely want to serve this smoothie immediately after you blend it. If you let it sit, it will separate.
  • If you have leftovers that you want to blend later, store it in the fridge and then add a few more pineapple chunks and blend it up again. This will restore the original creamy texture.
  • For more tropical flavor, add a frozen banana and a splash of vanilla extract.
  • For a healthy boost, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder or a scoop of Greek yogurt.
  • Top your smoothie with pineapple chunks, coconut flakes, or whipped cream.

Questions

Are Piña Colada Smoothies good for you?

Yes! The pineapple and coconut blend has some great health benefits. One smoothie provides 4 grams of fiber, 62 mg of Vitamin C, and 3 grams of protein. In addition to that, pineapple provides enzymes that aid in digestion.

Can you buy coconut water?

Yes, most grocery stores carry coconut water in the drinks section. Vita Coco and Zico both make a 100% natural coconut water drink that doesn’t have added sugar.

How do I save leftovers of this smoothie?

We recommend keeping the leftovers in your blender jar in the fridge and using whatever is left within a day or two. There will be some separation. When you are ready to drink the leftovers, put the jar back on the blender base, add another handful of frozen pineapple, and blend.
