We are proud to be the home of the FIRST copycat recipe for these Wingers Wings and Freakin’ Amazing Sauce! Since posting the recipe for this best buffalo sauce back in 2009, it has become a favorite all over the internet. Other bloggers have used our recipe, but we are the ORIGINAL (well, the original COPYCAT.. haha)! We love whipping up a batch for game-day, for parties, birthday, or any weeknight dinner. These buffalo chicken wings are one of our most shared recipes, and we are thrilled to be able to share it with you.

Ingredients

This is one of the easiest chicken wing recipes you’ll ever try! First you’ll need to grab whole wings at the grocery store. This sauce can also be used on chicken drumettes.

For the Wings:

  • Flour – I like to use Wondra flour, but regular flour is great too
  • Cayenne pepper – whisk in the red pepper with the flour mixture. You can also add a teaspoon garlic powder, paprika, or a little onion powder.
  • Salt and black pepper – sprinkle into the flour mixture.
  • Chicken wings
  • Oil – for deep frying

Wingers Freakin’ Amazing Sauce:

The sauce recipe for these wings couldn’t be easier! All you need are two ingredients, and a little bit of water.

  • Franks Hot Sauce – it has to be Franks Red Hot Sauce, no other sauce will taste as good for homemade buffalo sauce. It’s truly the secret ingredient that makes this wing recipe the absolute best!
  • Brown sugar – add as much as you like to balance out the spiciness of the hot sauce.
  • Water

Suggestions for Wingers Wings and Sauce

  • To make the wings even more spicy and crispy, try combining some corn starch and buffalo sauce along with the flour mixture. Our dear readers tell us that will give the skin an extra crispy kick!
  • Add a little ranch dressing to the amazing sauce to make Wingers Creamy Amazing Sauce. It’s the perfect salad dressing, French fry dipping sauce, veggie dip, you name it!
  • If you’ve ever dined at Wingers, you know about their bottomless popcorn. Try dipping popcorn in the creamy amazing sauce. You’re welcome.
  • Love blue cheese? Try these wings with our creamy blue cheese sauce!
  • Add Freakin’ Amazing sauce to burgers, grilled chicken, kabobs, pork, or even baked potatoes. You cannot go wrong with this stuff!
  • We’ve tried many kinds of hot sauce over the years, and Franks Hot Sauce is by far superior. You can find it at your regular grocery store. Trust me, it’s worth it to find that particular brand. Nothing else tastes quite like it!

Cool the Spice

These famous wings are delicious, but just like most buffalo sauce recipes, they can be spicy, so foods that go well with them are more balancing things: a baked potato and mac and cheese. Keeping it cool, a simple salad, lettuce, celery sticks, olive oil, red onion, grape tomatoes, and some ranch or honey mustard would also pair well. You can drizzle honey over the wings to balance out the hotness of the buffalo wing sauce. You can also dip them into blue cheese dressing.

How to Store Leftovers

Store any leftover wings in an airtight container or wrapped in foil in the fridge for up to three days. You can reheat and bake chicken wings by placing the wings on a baking sheet or pan and placing in the oven until heated through. Baked wings will revive the crispness of freshly fried wings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sides to make with wings?

You can serve French fries, fruit, pizza, sandwiches, salads, just about anything!

What goes best with hot wings?

Avocado goes great with hot wings because it’s fatty and cooling in the mouth, so something like guacamole and fresh corn tortilla chips would be a great and delicious choice.

What is the most ordered wing flavor?

Buffalo Wings are the most popular wing flavor in America. There’s something about spicy chicken…But we love Wingers Original Amazing Sauce because it is sweet with a bit of a kick. Other favorites are garlic-parmesan wings or lemon pepper wings.

What is the thickening agent for wing sauce?

If your sauce isn’t thick enough, you can add a little cornstarch with cold water, then add to the hot sauce while it’s cooking.

For the Wings

Wingers Freakin' Amazing Sauce

  • 1/3 cup Franks Hot Sauce (It has to be Franks Hot Sauce, no other sauce will taste as good)
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

For the Wings

  • Mix the flour, cayenne and salt together in a bowl.
Bowl of flour mixture and whisk on the side.
  • Place chicken wings in a large bowl and toss with flour mixture until they are evenly coated (or you can do it the Shake n' Bake way and put it all in a large and coat 5 or so wings at a time so they get evenly covered). Cover bowl and refrigerate for about an hour.
Bowl of frozen chicken wings covered in flour mixture.
  •  Make Wingers Freakin Amazing Sauce (below)
Pan of Wingers Freakin Amazing sauce. Whisk on the side.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees. Fry coated wings in hot oil for 10 to 15 minutes, or until parts of wings begin to turn brown.
Fried chicken wings on a paper towel. Tongs on the side.

Wingers Freakin Amazing Sauce

  • Heat up hot sauce, brown sugar, and water in a saucepan until all the sugar dissolves. Remove sauce from heat and allow it to cool to room temperature before adding to wings OR prepare ahead of time and refrigerate.
Pan of Wingers Freakin Amazing sauce. Whisk on the side.
  • The wings turn out best if you don’t pour warm sauce over them. You want it nice and thick.

Notes

For best results:
  • Make sauce and allow to fully cool before pouring over fried chicken wings
  • Or prepare ahead of time and place in the refrigerator
  • The sauce is thicker when cool, and this allows for best results when pouring

This sauce was SPOT ON! Wingers is my favorite restaurant, always has been. We have moved to a place that no one has even heard of wingers, so I’ve been trying to find a recipe that will satisfy my craving and have never found one… until now. I’ve tried their bottled sauce, and this recipe is still better. Who knew it could be so simple? Thank you for sharing this! If I wanted to make their stick fingers, how would I do it? I have chicken breast tenders that need to be used up!

Looks great and will try them this weekend. BTW….Franks Hot Sauce is good, but we love “Cajun Chef” made in the heart of Acadiana. It’s more flavorful than hot and we tried ’em all and like it best.

  4. For the breading use equal parts corn starch and buffalo sauce. It’s what Wingers uses and gives them an amazing crisp

    1. Oh yum! We will have to try that! I have never thought of adding buffalo sauce to the breading mixture. Thanks for the suggestion!

  5. Here in SLC utah Wingers Amazing sauce is available in Harmons grocery stores. What we do is get som KFC Hot wings (my wife owns one of these) and pour the Amazing sauce over them in a foil pan then bake them for approx. 30 minutes. mmm mmm mmm

For those who are interested in baking your wings, try this method: Steam wings for 13 min. Bake at 360 degrees for 40 min. Place under broiler for 3-4 min. Steaming the wings first removes much of the fat and makes the wings sooo juicy and reduces the oven time . I have used this sauce many times before and it is a winner!

I made these tonight, and they were amazing!! I want to say I have never been to Wingers or any “wing” type resturant for that matter. So expensive. My husband is always disappointed because of the prices for so little that you get. So I made a double batch of this recipe and my family couldn’t get enough. You know it’s good when nobody is talking and they are licking their fingers. Thank you for sharing your recipe 🙂

    1. So glad you guys liked them!!! They go so fast at our house too! My kids DEVOUR them!!! Thanks for your comment!

My husband and I ate at Wingers in Utah 2-3 times a week while we were dating because we loved it so much. We have since moved from Utah and I was on the search to find something that tasted just like it. I tried numerous recipes…only to be disappointed. Then I came across this recipe. I have died and gone heaven. These taste just like them!!!!! Definitely adding this to our monthly menu. Thanks so much!!

I have never heard of Wingers but we are always looking to try new buffalo sauces for our chicken. I made the sauce tonight and tasted it afterwards and it is delicious. Can't wait to try it on our chicken tomorrow night. Thanks for sharing.

Seriously A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. We made 2 batches yesterday – one for our chicken and one we added the ranch to the other batch for some Creamy Amazing with popcorn. ALL of it is gone. I better go run….

    Thanks for sharing!

  11. Oh. My. Gosh. We LOVE Winger's! Once we got stuck in Laramie, WY, overnight one December because of car trouble, & went to a Winger's (we don't live near one). It turned out to be the very last night that one was open before it went out of business! We were more than happy to give it a happy sendoff.
