In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, mix water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Add flour and salt. Mix until smooth.
Cover and let rise for 10 minutes.
On a floured surface, roll the dough out into a square. The dough should be about ¼-inch thick. Mix ¼ cup butter and 1 teaspoon mixed garlic together. Spread the garlic butter over the whole dough square. Sprinkle with salt.
Fold the square in half and cut the dough into 1-inch-wide strips with a pizza cutter. Twist each strip and place it on a baking sheet. Let rise for 20 minutes.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes or until golden brown. While the breadsticks are still warm melt the remaining butter and add 1 teaspoon minced garlic, kosher salt, basil, and oregano. Brush the herb butter over the breadsticks and top with Parmesan cheese.
Serve with marinara, ranch, or Alfredo sauce for dipping.
