Ingredients

  • 6 inches bakery artisan sandwich bread (we found a French bread type that was wonderful)
  • 3 tablespoons fig butter or fig preserves
  • ¼ pound sliced or shaved deli turkey
  • 2-3 ounces Brie cheese
  • ½ cup spring mix
  • 1 Granny Smith, thinly sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons Dijon mustard

Instructions

  • Slice the bread in half.
Slicing bread in half on a cutting board with a bread knife.
  • On the bottom half of the bread, generously spread the fig butter (as if you were making a PB&J).
Spreading Fig butter on bottom half of the bread with a butter knife on a cutting board.
  • Layer on the turkey.
Placing turkey deli meat on top of fig butter spread.
  • Slice or spread the Brie (this can get tricky, just spread it on as best you can).
Placing slices of brie cheese on top of deli turkey breast.
  • Layer the greens and apples.
Placing sliced green apples on top of greens layer of turkey sandwich.
  • Spread mustard on the top slice of bread and place on top of the sandwich.
Spreading dijon mustard on top later of French bread.
  • That's it! Seriously, best sandwich ever.

Notes

  • Get a good bread. I used French bread, which was wonderful but you could use ciabatta, focaccia, or any kind of bread that looks delicious to you.
  • This recipe calls for fig butter, and you can find it at Trader Joe's for just a couple of dollars. Fig butter brings life to the sandwich; don't leave it out! If you don't have a Trader Joe's in your area, you can make your own by mixing fig preserves with softened butter or you can just spread a layer of fig preserves on the bread. So yummy!
  • Brie cheese is easy to find at your local grocery store. It can get a little sticky when spreading on the sandwich; you can just use your fingers to get an even layer.
  • The tartness of the Granny Smith apple complements the creaminess of the cheese and just makes the sandwich so good. You won't use the entire apple - you just want a single layer - so slice up and serve the remaining apple on the side.
