Deep Fried Oreos

Deep Fried Oreos are my favorite little indulgence every time we go to the fair. They are crispy on the outside, soft and gooey in the middle, and the ultimate "treat-yourself" treat!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups complete pancake mix (just add water) plus more if needed for thickening
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 20 Double Stuff Oreo Cookies
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil plus more for frying
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Heat 3 inches of oil in a deep pot, Dutch oven or deep fryer to 375ºF
    Combine pancake mix, egg, milk, vanilla and 2 teaspoons vegetable oil in a large bowl. If thin, add more pancake mix, 1 tablespoon at a time, until thickened.

  • Dip each Oreo into the batter, then place in the oil. Cook for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown all over.

  • Remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain
    Deep fried Oreos on a sheet pan lined with paper towels.
  • Move the Oreos on a serving plate and sift powdered sugar over the top. Serve immediately while they are still hot and crispy.

Notes

Don’t Overcrowd the Pot - Fry just a few Oreos at a time. If you add too many, the oil temperature will drop and they’ll absorb more oil, making them soggy instead of crispy.
Troubleshooting: If your Oreos are having a tough time staying together in the fryer, try thickening the batter more or freezing the Oreos for 15-30 minutes to allow them to cool and harden.
