Making Ginger Syrup

The ginger flavoring in this homemade ginger ale recipe comes from a ginger syrup. To make the ginger syrup you add fresh peeled and grated ginger to a pot with water, sugar, and lemon juice and zest. Simmer on medium heat for 15 minutes to let all the flavors get to know each other. Cool the mixture to room temperature and then transfer to a glass jar or bottle for storage. The mixture will keep for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Recipe Tip

Make sure the ginger syrup is completely cooled before transferring it to a bottle or jar.
