Fast Food Sliders, Even Faster
This White Castle Slider copycat recipe is one of my very favorite party apps! Even my picky teenagers can’t get enough of them (and that’s saying something). Don’t let their small size fool you, these sliders are hearty, savory, and perfect for feeding a crowd. With less than 15 minutes of prep (and under an hour start to finish), you can have a big batch of homemade sliders ready to go. Try them with some Animal-Style Fries (yes, I know these are from a completely different fast food chain but a little crossover never hurt anyone), Tater Tots, or Fried Pickles. I know you are going to love these as much as we do!

Key Ingredients in White Castle Sliders
- Lipton onion soup mix – This comes in a two-pack in a box. It seasons the meat with a nice, savory onion flavor. You will only be using the dry mixture, so no need to make up the packet.
- Peanut butter – Yes, peanut butter! Just a tablespoon, and trust me on this! If you are really against using the peanut butter, you can just leave it out, but it holds the meat together nicely.
- Onion – Yellow onion that is finely chopped. You will scatter the onions over the top of the ground beef and bottom buns during the baking process.

How to Make White Castle Sliders Step-by-Step

- Mix the ground beef, Lipton onion soup mix, peanut butter, and milk in a large bowl. Spread the mixture on a half-sheet baking pan. Use a rolling pin to roll over the meat to smooth it out over the bottom of the baking sheet.

- Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Take the pan out of the oven, sprinkle the diced onions all around the edges, then bake for 15 more minutes.

- Remove from the oven, spoon the onions from the edges all over the top of the meat, and layer with cheese slices. Bake another 7 to 10 minutes or until cheese has melted.

- Add the tops of the rolls (the bottom part of the rolls will just sit on the counter.) Bake for about 5 more minutes.

- Remove from oven. Slice the meat into individual sliders with a pizza cutter. Pick up the slider meat and its top bun with a spatula and set it on the bottom bun.

- Serve hot with mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles, or any of your other favorite condiments.
What to Serve with Sliders
White Castle sliders pair perfectly with classic sides like Air Fryer Frozen French fries, Onion Rings, Tater Tots, or Sweet Potato Fries. Add a lighter touch with Coleslaw, a fresh side salad, or Easy Fruit Salad. For something heartier, serve them with Baked Beans, Homemade Mac And Cheese, or a warm bowl of Tomato Soup or our famous “Cheater” Chili.
Make Ahead and Storage Tips
You can easily make these White Castle sliders ahead of time or freeze them for later! Store cooled sliders in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or wrap individually in plastic wrap and freeze in a Ziplock freezer bag for up to a month. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating. When ready to enjoy, wrap in a paper towel and microwave for 30-40 seconds. They’ll taste just as fresh (and delicious) as the night before!
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, of course you can, but I suggest giving them a try. Even if you don’t like onions, they add a wonderful flavor and texture that just can’t be duplicated.
I know it sounds weird, but the peanut butter adds a terrific texture and depth of flavor that is difficult to substitute. If you have a nut allergy or just can’t do the peanut butter, feel free to leave it out.
Yes! These work great and still have the classic onion flavor that helps provide the White Castle taste!

Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 (2-ounce) packet Lipton soup mix
- 1 tablespoon peanut butter
- ½ cup milk
- 1 onion,, finely chopped
- 12 cheese slices, Kraft or Velveeta cheese slices work great too
- 12 slider rolls, I found mine in the bakery section of the grocery store. You may be able to fit more on depending on the size of the buns.
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Set aside a half sheet baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef. Lipton onion soup mix, peanut butter, and milk.

- Spread the meat mixture on the baking sheet. Use a rolling pin to roll over the meat to smooth it out. Bake for about 10 minutes. The meat will shrink. Put the diced onion all around the edges and bake 15 minutes.

Notes
- I found my slider rolls in the bakery section of the grocery store. You may be able to fit more or fewer buns on the meat, depending on the size of the buns.
- Once you have your cheese sliders baked and cut, you can top them with all kinds of toppings ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or other condiments; dill pickle slices (you’ll probably want 20-24 dill pickle chips for these, especially if you’re a fan of dill pickle); lime pickles; garlic powder; and a pinch of salt.

I’ve never heard of white castle sliders, but you just can’t beat a homemade burger. They are a real family pleaser.
These were so easy and so good. My whole family loved them. The only addition I had to make per my Husband was finely diced jalapenos. Awesome!
These are AMAZINGLY delicious!! I cooked them just as the recipe said, and my entire family (husband and two teen children) devoured them. This recipe tastes just like the restaurant’s. It’s definitely a keeper!
Easy and tasty
Absolute fabulous recipe! With the addition of a simple tweak, plus an addition of garlic. I followed the recipe to a “T” but I added a clove of minced garlic to the ground beef and here’s the main adjustment… I grated 1/3 of the onion and added it to the ground beef as well prior to cooking. This came out just like the Whitey’s burgers but only better! I’ll make this forever.
Easy and delicious. I now put peanut butter in all my burger mixtures.
It is very interesting how “know it alls” can sell an idea ? I worked at a Krystal !
The burgers were in a slab frozen. Take out a slab put on grill front. It was a hot
part. After a given am’t of time (varies with a lot going on), turn over by sections (spatula was suited to task) move to rear of grill where it was warm then buns were put on,top first bottom on top. Cheese was put on as sold. as far as make up of burger we did not know exactly. But, it was all to gather. Onions were Incorporated with th meat . Not put on grill first. Mustard and pickle added at sale .
Good to know. Thank you for sharing!
This is how it’s done:

No peanut butter, no milk, no baking. Just steam them on a generous bed of re-hydrated onions. I made enough late night runs to White Castle while I was in college and I watched them closely. This is how they do it. This is how I do it (for the most part).
Yes!!! This is why white castles are so amazing. Because they never touch the griddle. They are not pan fried or sautéed. They are steamed with the holes in the burgers sitting on the bed of onions that give off the moisture that comes through the holes and the buns on top cook the top. You nailed it. These were delicious but nothing like white castles
I used Kings Hawaiian Slider Buns and spread the diced onion over the bottom of the pan before rolling out the meat. After 30 minutes, I spread a mixture of dill relish and mustard over the meat and topped with American Cheese. Baked for an additional 5-10 minutes. Everyone raved about these!!! Thanks.
Haters gonna hate, lol.
These are way better than white castle proper. Living in Michigan, we’ve had a steady supply of gut busters my whole life. I prefer this recipe over white castles ANY-DAY.
I have a few tips though!! If its your first time making this, dont be overwhelmed – the steps are easy. EACH STEP I DRAIN THE GREASE OFF. That is not listed in the recipe, however, I cannot imagine how incredibly greasy it would be if you didn’t do this!! Also, after I take the cookie sheet out of the oven the 1st time, I sprinkle a little onion powder (season to your liking) and pepper on the meat. Then put it back in the oven. I leave a little piece of the meat withOUT onions – some people dont care for them, but appreciate the flavor. Just giving you some tips, thats all. Also, I buy the Deli american cheese – the finer quality cheese, you will notice a difference and so will your fam, the sliders taste WAY better.
All in all, a GREAT recipe. I always make 2 batches because my family and friends will eat the first batch, the 2nd batch is for us for leftovers the next day (OMG these are so good reheated!).
Oh! I almost forgot. My Kroger sells little brioche dinner rolls, they are delicious and perfect for this recipe.
ONE MORE THING: I also put “hamburger pickles” on my sliders. Forgot to mention that. IT MAKES THEM!!
I have a question more than a comment. I see the nutritional info but was wondering how many sliders is considered a serving? Is the nutritional info provided “per slider”? I did make the recipe this weekend but used the Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (my sons fav) and they were delicious. Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad you liked them! The Hawaiian Sweet Rolls are the best! To answer your question, yes, the nutritional information listed is per slider. Thanks for asking!
There good but I’m from the midwest where white castle is known an they have nowhere near the same taste as the castle. They are good just not WHITE CASTLE GOOD!😉
Great Recipe!!!!!
Wow! I am a White Castle fanatic and you wont get any closer to the real thing. Follow the recipe and don’t change a thing. If you’re a White Castle lover, you wont be disappointed. Im not sure if the peanut butter added to the consistency or the taste…or both… but do what the recipe says. Thank you for sharing this one!!
10 stars as far as Im concerned
Thank you so much for the review! We are so glad you liked the recipe!!
They were good but do not taste like White Castle. I grew up on White Castle. And the peanut butter was no big deal. It adds a good flavor to the hamburger.
Dude! Way to go! So how were your chocolate chip cookies anyway? Hope they were so tasty and delicious.
HI, i TOTALLY ALTERED THE RECIPE, BUT i STILL THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO COME HERE AND COMMENT ABOUT IT. it tastes awesome even though it wasn’t remotely close to what you suggested I use here and feel I should tell that to you. so who cares about your recipe. It was my first time and I decided to do something radically different and tell you that it actually tastes better than your recipe, even though I never actually cooked it.
I used chicken instead of beef, mushroom soup instead of onion, cashew butter instead of peanut butter, goat milk instead, and swiss cheese instead of Velveeta. LOL! No one ever follows the recipe, they always have to be different!
Pretty darn close to White Castles. For me, its cheaper to just go the 10 blocks to my nearest White Castle. But it was fun making these and they were yummy.
You win the best comment. Lol. Truth. Lol
Petty good. While eating from the wheel of death at work and paying three bucks for a fricking two pack of white castle I started to think that these should be super easy to make and cheaper than eating out of the vending machine.
I didn’t use the peanut butter or the milk, but I don’t like either. I also left the meat a tiny bit thicker. Tossed a dusting of old bay seasoning on top before putting the onions on top. Used Velveta cheese slices.
I’m planning on featuring these during my next D&D game, quick, easy, tasty and cheap, no better way to feed a room of half a dozen people.
So glad you enjoyed them! Thank you for the nice comment! Glad you will enjoy them while battling Demigorgons (Everything I know about D&D comes from Stranger Things so I honestly don’t even know this is an actual D&D reference lol)
My family adores these lil sliders so I’ve been making them for years, trying different methods. I’ve made this recipe and I it is one of my favorites. You guys, the peanut butter isn’t that big of a deal. I use it when I have it and sometimes I’ve just forgot to put in there…either way, they are delicious and you do not notice that it’s in there, UNLESS you put more that what is suggested and if so, that’s on you. One time I forgot to put in the Lipton soup and didn’t realize it until I was ready to cook them, so I just sprinkled a little on top as they were cooking and then the other side when I flipped. It actually works well and we like the more intense flavor with it being on top. Just an option in case you forget to add it. Great recipe!
Hi Patti- Thank you so much for this constructive comment. I am so glad that you and your family have enjoyed this recipe!
I cooked these in minutes tonight. I was afraid the peanut butter would be over powering, but I used it anyway. These turned out so tasty and moist. I will be cooking these again. I added JK’s steak seasoning, onion powder and garlic powder. Yum ,yumhi
Yummmmmm! A party favorite! Make at least double the amount you think you’ll need, they disappear fast and leave ’em begging for more!
OMG, YAASSS! I made them, and they were so good!
Never had White Castle sliders before but wanted to try them. Just used this recipe tonight and they were very tasty. Buns were fresh made this morning at bakery. But I used shredded cheddar cheese rather than slices. These were very tasty burgers. Plan on freezing half of them for future cravings. Thanks for the recipe. Will make this again for sure.
PS,
the people complaining about peanut butter tasting bad probably used old stuff. It takes on a ‘formaldehyde’ kind of smell when it gets tainted. So do most nuts eventually as well. And that smell will lead to a bad taste in the food, if you use the tainted peanut butter in anything. I bought a fresh jar of it today and was glad I did. When I went to make the sliders, my old jar had that bad smell. So it got thrown out. fyi
Made these tonight and they were SO GOOD!!! Hubs said they tasted exactly like white castle. Will definitely make again!
I was only able to make 10 though. I rolled the meat out to the edge, but maybe I need a bigger sheet pan?
Or maybe you were using larger rolls? Either way, its an easy fix! We use standard size cookie sheets.
