This recipe is the only way I make chops in the crockpot! They always come out tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The gravy is excellent. I use bone-in pork chops only. Thanks for sharing this recipe!Mary

I am a big fan of crock pot meals and this is a favorite recipe for my family. When grandkids are with us they clean their plates clean when I serve. They enjoy the sauce over the mash potatoes too. So…kid approved, Grandma happy! 😊 – Carol

Great Grandpa’s Famous Pork Chops

This easy Crock Pot Pork Chops recipe came from my great-grandpa and was passed down to my mom, then to us. When my mom was in college, she would go over to my great-grandpa’s house and he would make these pork chops for her. It’s a cozy, comforting, no-fuss meal that only takes about 5-minutes to prep.

As it slow cooks, it makes the most flavorful gravy and fork-tender pork chops. They practically melt in your mouth!

My great-grandpa used two cans of cream of mushroom soup, but I like to use one can cream of chicken and one of mushroom for a brighter dimension. No need to add water – just pour the soup in and let the slow cooker do the work.

Ingredients Needed

Ingredients to make Crock Pot Pork Chops: pork chops, Ranch seasoning, cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup.
  • Pork Chops: I use thin boneless pork chops for this Crockpot pork chops recipe, but you can also use bone-in chops. If you use a thicker chop, make sure the internal temperature reaches 145° F before serving.
  • Ranch Seasoning Salad Dressing and Recipe Mix: I prefer the Hidden Valley brand seasoning mix.
  • Cream of Chicken Soup: The Campbell’s brand is my go to when making this recipe. When I don’t have it on hand, I make my own cream of chicken soup recipe.
  • Cream of Mushroom Soup: For a quick and convenient meal, Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom is what I use. When I have more time, and want more mushrooms in the gravy, I make my own cream of mushroom soup recipe.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Cream Soup Substitutions. You can adjust the flavors of the gravy according to the type of cream soup you use. Cream of Celery or Cream of Onion can be substituted for either cream soup in the recipe, or you can use two of the same flavor.
  • Lower the Sodium: To cut down on the salt content or to simply reduce the sodium in the gravy for this recipe, use low-sodium cream soups. You can also make your own cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soups and control the amount of salt.
  • Chicken Instead of Pork. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts can be used in place of the pork chops. Please note that chicken needs to reach an internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
  • Additional Seasonings. The packet of ranch dressing mix contains plenty of seasonings, but feel free to add fresh herbs, sautéed onions, minced garlic, garlic powder, or pepper to suit your tastes.

What to Serve on the Side

The creamy gravy that cooks along with the pork chops in the crock pot is delicious served over mashed potatoes. You literally don’t have to do anything extra to make the gravy. Once the pork chops are done, you can just use a slotted spoon or tongs to get the pork out of the crockpot and use whatever remains as gravy.

My go-to meal is serving the pork chops and gravy with mashed potatoes and a side of steamed vegetables. The gravy is also delicious served with homemade rice or over egg noodles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use bone-in pork chops instead of boneless?

Yes! Bone-in pork chops work great in this recipe. They may take slightly longer to cook, just make sure they reach an internal temperature of 145°F before serving.

Can I use frozen pork chops in the Crock Pot?

No, you will need to thaw pork chops before using them in this recipe. According to the USDA, frozen pork chops can take too long to reach a safe internal temperature in a slow cooker. This can result in food borne illnesses – and no one wants that!

Do I need to brown the pork chops before adding them to the Crock Pot?

No browning is necessary. This is a true dump-and-go slow cooker recipe. However, if you want a little extra flavor, you can sear the pork chops 1-2 minutes on each side before adding the seasonings and placing them in the Crock Pot.

How do you keep pork from drying out in a Crock Pot?

A few tips for moist, tender pork chops in a slow cooker. First, coat the pork chops completely in the seasonings. Next, make sure the pork chops are covered with the soup mixture. Lastly, cook them on low until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees. This should take approximately 4-6 hours with most slow cookers.

Do I add water or milk to the condensed soup when making pork chops in the Crock Pot or JUST use the soup?

You do not need to add any water or milk. Do not follow the instructions on the can. You only use the condensed soup.

How do I thicken the gravy after cooking?

If you’d like a thicker gravy, make a slurry by mixing 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water in a small bowl. Remove the pork chops from the slow cooker and pour the remaining gravy into a small saucepan. Stir the slurry into the gravy and cook on medium heat until thickened – this will only take a few minutes.

My grandmother made this in a “thrift pot” a precursor to the Crock Pot. I have changed it a bit. I use golden mushroom condensed soup and some canned mushrooms. I also brown the pork shops. One of my favorite dishes.

I watch my 3-1/2 year old grandson and my 6 month old grandson. I have exactly 5 minutes to fix dinner. This meal was not only quick, it was also delicious! Both my husband and grandson liked it. It is a winner. Thank you for the recipe.

I haven’t made this yet. But I do do chicken like this except I don’t put the ranch dressing mix in it. I’ll have to try that. I serve it with egg noodles and stove top stuffing (it’s so good). But I was wondering if you could use cream of potato soup 🤷‍♀️. May try that. Thanks for sharing 🥰 Have a wonderful day 🙏🏻

I made your crockpot pork chops and I enjoyed it. But instead of using cream of mushroom soup I used cream of onion soup. Next time I make it I’m going to but some onion.
    Thank you Cheryl

My daughter (now 15) HATES and I mean has always HATED pork chops. I bought pork loin chops randomly on sale at Whole Foods and did a “quick recipe for chops” search thinking I’d give it another go… she LOOOOVES this recipe! Had two helpings! We put it over rice with a side of broccoli. Yum! I am making it again today and we decided to double up the soups because the sauce was so yummy. Thank you for this new addition to our family’s recipe book!

My husband loves this dish. After I leave for work he puts all the ingredients in
the crockpot and then goes on his merry way. We make instant mashed potates and dinner couldn’t be any easier!

  7. I truly love reading your recipes gives me some good ideas to choose from different from plain meals, I live alone but can still get your ideas Thank you

I tried this recipe today and I must say it was very delicious. The chops were so tender they fell off the bone! I served it with mashed potatoes, green beans and apple sauce. I can’t wait to make it again. This is a meal that is sure to impress!

  9. I needed to give this a star in order to be able to make a comment.
I question the sodium content of this recipe. I gave. up Campbells soups years ago because of the sodium. Also the Ranch dressing is loaded with sodium. It was not noted the size of the envelope.
This sounds good, fast and easy.

    1. Campbells now has “Unsalted” Cream of Chicken soup and “Unsalted” Cream of Mushroom soup. You can also find several Ranch Dressing Mix without salt on Amazon and online, like MySALT “Sodium Free” Ranch Dressing Mix and Really Ranch Salt-Free Ranch Dressing Mix.

  10. Sorry but NO. MSG in ranch dressing and horrible ingredients in the canned soups, just yuck! Trader Joes has Ranch Powder with no preservatives or MSG. Learn to make cream sauce with real foods like cream and butter, tapioca flour works great to thicken.

    1. Sorry, but … I’m sure we all would like to eat healthier, but this isn’t a health foods/all-natural recipe site. Just because you don’t like the ingredients doesn’t mean that others won’t. Everyone’s different (I know, that still comes as a shock to some people). And FWIW, I think it’s kinda rude to be telling the author “NO” and ordering the interwebz to “learn” things (cream & butter may be “rea”l foods but they’re not exactly bananas & kale, now are they?). No one asked. If you need to be negative in all caps and say things like “yuck” and “horrible,” why not take that negativity someplace else and find a site that has recipes you like, and leave those of us who don’t mind using some prepackaged foods once in a while alone – ? #positivityforthewin

      1. Right?! This is a recipe. Add what you want, change what you want but you do not need to “bad mouth” it. My gosh.

      2. 5 stars
I’ve never left a comment before, but I loved your response to the incredibly rude, pompous person that left such a negative review.

Oh, this is DELICIOUS AND EASY, perfect for people who work and have families. Thanks
