This recipe is the only way I make chops in the crockpot! They always come out tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The gravy is excellent. I use bone-in pork chops only. Thanks for sharing this recipe!Mary

I am a big fan of crock pot meals and this is a favorite recipe for my family. When grandkids are with us they clean their plates clean when I serve. They enjoy the sauce over the mash potatoes too. So…kid approved, Grandma happy! 😊 – Carol

Great Grandpa’s Famous Pork Chops

This easy Crock Pot Pork Chops recipe came from my great-grandpa and was passed down to my mom, then to us. When my mom was in college, she would go over to my great-grandpa’s house and he would make these pork chops for her. It’s a cozy, comforting, no-fuss meal that only takes about 5-minutes to prep.

As it slow cooks, it makes the most flavorful gravy and fork-tender pork chops. They practically melt in your mouth!

My great-grandpa used two cans of cream of mushroom soup, but I like to use one can cream of chicken and one of mushroom for a brighter dimension. No need to add water – just pour the soup in and let the slow cooker do the work.

Ingredients Needed

Ingredients to make Crock Pot Pork Chops: pork chops, Ranch seasoning, cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup.
  • Pork Chops: I use thin boneless pork chops for this Crockpot pork chops recipe, but you can also use bone-in chops. If you use a thicker chop, make sure the internal temperature reaches 145° F before serving.
  • Ranch Seasoning Salad Dressing and Recipe Mix: I prefer the Hidden Valley brand seasoning mix.
  • Cream of Chicken Soup: The Campbell’s brand is my go to when making this recipe. When I don’t have it on hand, I make my own cream of chicken soup recipe.
  • Cream of Mushroom Soup: For a quick and convenient meal, Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom is what I use. When I have more time, and want more mushrooms in the gravy, I make my own cream of mushroom soup recipe.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Cream Soup Substitutions. You can adjust the flavors of the gravy according to the type of cream soup you use. Cream of Celery or Cream of Onion can be substituted for either cream soup in the recipe, or you can use two of the same flavor.
  • Lower the Sodium: To cut down on the salt content or to simply reduce the sodium in the gravy for this recipe, use low-sodium cream soups. You can also make your own cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soups and control the amount of salt.
  • Chicken Instead of Pork. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts can be used in place of the pork chops. Please note that chicken needs to reach an internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
  • Additional Seasonings. The packet of ranch dressing mix contains plenty of seasonings, but feel free to add fresh herbs, sautéed onions, minced garlic, garlic powder, or pepper to suit your tastes.

What to Serve on the Side

The creamy gravy that cooks along with the pork chops in the crock pot is delicious served over mashed potatoes. You literally don’t have to do anything extra to make the gravy. Once the pork chops are done, you can just use a slotted spoon or tongs to get the pork out of the crockpot and use whatever remains as gravy.

My go-to meal is serving the pork chops and gravy with mashed potatoes and a side of steamed vegetables. The gravy is also delicious served with homemade rice or over egg noodles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use bone-in pork chops instead of boneless?

Yes! Bone-in pork chops work great in this recipe. They may take slightly longer to cook, just make sure they reach an internal temperature of 145°F before serving.

Can I use frozen pork chops in the Crock Pot?

No, you will need to thaw pork chops before using them in this recipe. According to the USDA, frozen pork chops can take too long to reach a safe internal temperature in a slow cooker. This can result in food borne illnesses – and no one wants that!

Do I need to brown the pork chops before adding them to the Crock Pot?

No browning is necessary. This is a true dump-and-go slow cooker recipe. However, if you want a little extra flavor, you can sear the pork chops 1-2 minutes on each side before adding the seasonings and placing them in the Crock Pot.

How do you keep pork from drying out in a Crock Pot?

A few tips for moist, tender pork chops in a slow cooker. First, coat the pork chops completely in the seasonings. Next, make sure the pork chops are covered with the soup mixture. Lastly, cook them on low until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees. This should take approximately 4-6 hours with most slow cookers.

Do I add water or milk to the condensed soup when making pork chops in the Crock Pot or JUST use the soup?

You do not need to add any water or milk. Do not follow the instructions on the can. You only use the condensed soup.

How do I thicken the gravy after cooking?

If you’d like a thicker gravy, make a slurry by mixing 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water in a small bowl. Remove the pork chops from the slow cooker and pour the remaining gravy into a small saucepan. Stir the slurry into the gravy and cook on medium heat until thickened – this will only take a few minutes.

  1. I am using McCormick Montreal chicken on the chops, one small onion cut up and can of Heart Healthy mushroom soup. I threw in some baking potatoes on top. Also put in 1/2 cup water. Should be fantastic and soooo easy. Will let you know.

  2. Trying to eat better and my cooking is criminal unless I cook in a crockpot. Going to get the ingredients for this tomorrow. Sounds yummy!! Love anything cooked with mushroom anything. 🙂

  3. Been looking for a good crockpot recipe for an hour. Will try this today.don’t have cream of mushroom but will use can of mushrooms as someone suggested. Also a little onion soup mix.

  4. Trying this today….don’t have cream of mushroom soup, so am using cream of celery and cream of chicken, but am adding 1/4 cup chopped canned mushrooms….can’t wait to see how this turns out…

  5. 5 stars
I used two cans of cream of mushroom and a half an envalope of Lipton onion soup. Yummy. Made stuffing and green beans for the sides.

  6. In the crock pot now. Didn’t have ranch mix, so just sprinkled salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme and basil on the chops. Looking forward to dinner tonight. Thanks.

  7. I only had cream of mushroom and cream of broccoli :(. Hope it turns out ok lol. Sounds like it’ll be good. And I just made a powder ranch recipe from online too so wish me luck lol Also could you throw on a can of peas instead of frozen? That’s all I have

  8. I have 4 Thick Center Cut chops. Will I need to adjust cooking time? Amount of other ingredients? I hope to get them in before I leave for work. Thank you.

    1. It may need just a little longer, but check it at the regular time. You should be fine keeping the other ingredients the same.

  9. Hi … I just put eleven thin cut chops in the crockpot with one can of family size cream of chicken soup and one pkg. Of the powdered dressing . I figured that since there was so many chops that the salty taste that everyone is talking about should balance out vs. Only cooking six chops….what do you think ?

      1. 5 stars
I had 10 thin boneless and so 5 stacked on 5…layered the ranch dressing mix with a family size cream of mushroom soup…low for 8 hrs…so good on a plate of mashed potatoes

        1. They can overlap but I don’t know if I would stack them. I don’t know if they will cook evenly if you have a lot of them stacked together. Hope this helps!

  10. 5 stars
I just made this meal tonight for my mother-in-law’s birthday. No pressure right?:) and it was delicious…I pretty much followed the recipe except for putting half package of the dressing powder because you can always add salt but cannot take it out and added frozen peas that someone in the previous comments mentioned and it turned just great! Thank you so much for sharing it!

  11. Had two grandsons for a week, and tried this (because it was so easy). Smelled great. But, even though I cooked it on low, there was hardly any gravy, the chops were too tough, and the bottom of my crockpot was burnt. This pot has never done this before. Followed the recipe exactly. Any clue what could’ve gone wrong?

    1. That is way crazy, I have made this SO many times and that has never happened. There should be lots of gravy. How long did you cook it for? How old is your slow cooker and what size is it? I have no idea why it would have ended up that way.

    1. The dip is a little different. For the best results you will want the dressing mix. If you try it, let us know how it turns out!

        1. You can find it at most grocery stores. I get a big container at Costco or you can find the packets at Walmart or grocery chains. It should be near all the bottled dressings. Hope this helps!

I actually made the same mistake in getting the ranch dip mix instead of dressing🙄 but the results were great! It was my first time so don’t know how the ranch dressing mix taste in it but the dip mix works perfect. I also did the 1 can cream of chicken and 1 can cream of mushroom ….. my family loved it and my oldest daughter is one of the pickiest eaters in the world ….thank you so much for the recipe 😁

  12. Trying this with the ranch dressing mix recipe you provided in one of the comments! Wish me luck! 🙂

  13. 5 stars
I’ve made this using Dry onion soup mix instead of the dry Ranch dressing. No water-just the dry mix-1 package or half. Yummy and delicious! 🙂

  14. Going to try this tonite using all the suggestions above. However, will use “Golden Mushroon” soup instead. Much better color and taste! My son hates mushrooms so I dump the can in a bowl add just enough water or milk to thin it out and run it thru a sieve to remove the mushrooms. I don’t use regular cream of mushroom anymore! BLICK
