I am a sucker for rice crispy treats for many reasons: they are SO easy, they don’t take a lot of ingredients, everyone loves them, they are perfect for a crowd, and they are delicious! It was actually my kids who asked that we try making them with other cereals to switch up the flavor, just for fun. The first time we made these, we made them with JUST fruity pebbles but we all agreed they were a little too sweet and the “fruit” flavors were too strong. They needed to be balanced out with Rice Krispies. We whipped up a second batch in just a few short minutes and did a 50/50 ratio and everyone liked them much more. That is how we have been making them ever since.

Only 4 Ingredients

  • Mini Marshmallows – For microwave rice krispies, mini marshmallows work best because they melt more evenly and they melt faster.
  • Butter – regular, salted sweet cream butter helps balance out the sweetness of the marshmallows.
  • Fruity Pebbles – These can be found at most grocery stores. They are super sweet and fruity. Although all the “pebbles” are different colors I am pretty sure they are all the same flavor.
  • Rice Krispies – Ok so this is one of those things where I always grab the original. I know there are generic brands but I swear the texture is different. Every time I have tried using a generic brand they just don’t turn out right. It’s worth spending an extra dollar or two to get it right.

Tips and Suggestions for Making Fruity Pebbles Rice Crispy Treats

Don’t overcook – When microwaving, you want the butter and marshmallows to be just barely melted so they stay perfectly gooey. Over cooking them can give you dry, hard rice krispie treats. Follow the recipe exactly and you will be golden.

Cereal ratios – As long as you are using 6 cups of cereal, it really doesn’t matter what ratios of cereal you use. If you want a fruitier treat, add more fruity pebbles. If you just want a light confetti look throughout your rice crispy treats, just use a small amount fruity pepples.

Add some decoration – If you are making these for a party or just want to add a little decoration, melt some white chocolate and drizzle it over the top. You can also dip half of each treat in white chocolate and add sprinkles over the top.

Add sticks to make crispy pops – For quick and easy serving for parties, you can also make these into rice crispy “pops” by just adding a stick to the squares. If you check out our post on Halloween Rice Krispie Treats we show you exactly how this is done. You are going to love them!

Using a 9×13 pan – If you want to make a larger batch and shape these in a 9×13 pan, you will want to alter the recipe a bit. The prep is the same but for the ingredients, use 9 cups cereal, ½ cup butter, and 16 oz. marshmallows.
