This Better Than Sex Cake is a rich chocolate poke cake filled with caramel and sweetened condensed milk, then topped with fluffy whipped topping and crunchy toffee pieces. It starts with a simple cake mix, but once that caramel filling sinks into the cake, it tastes like the kind of dessert everyone asks for again.

Why I Love This Cake
This cake has been a family favorite for years. My kids have requested it for their birthdays many times, and it quickly became one of those desserts I knew I could count on for parties, birthdays, and family dinners. I love that it starts with a basic cake mix but tastes like so much more once the caramel and sweetened condensed milk soak down into the cake.
The name is not exactly family friendly, so around kids we usually call it “Better Than You Know What Cake” or “Better Than Anything Cake”. No matter what you call it, the combination of chocolate cake, caramel filling, whipped topping, and crunchy Heath or Skor candy bars is always a hit.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Devil’s food cake mix – This gives the cake a rich chocolate base and keeps the recipe quick and easy.
- Sweetened condensed milk – This soaks into the cake and makes it extra moist and sweet.
- Caramel topping – Ice cream caramel topping works great, or you can use homemade caramel sauce.
- Whipped topping – Cool Whip is easy and holds up well, but homemade whipped cream also works.
- Heath or Skor candy bars – Chopped toffee bars add the best crunchy topping.
Ingredient Additions and Substitutions
- Cake mix: Devil’s food cake is my favorite, but German chocolate cake mix or regular chocolate cake mix also work well.
- Homemade cake mix: If you prefer to make the cake from scratch, use a Homemade Chocolate Cake Mix and bake it in a 9×13 pan.
- Candy topping: Try Butterfinger, Snickers, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Reese’s Pieces, mini M&M’s, crushed Oreos, mini Oreos, Fudge Stripe cookies, chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips.
- Caramel sauce: Store-bought caramel ice cream topping is easiest, but homemade caramel sauce makes it extra good.
- Whipped topping: Use thawed Cool Whip for convenience, or make homemade whipped cream with heavy cream and sugar. Avoid canned whipped cream because it melts too quickly.
- Extra chocolate: Drizzle chocolate syrup or hot fudge over the top before serving.
- Nut allergy note: Check the labels on Heath and Skor bars if you are serving someone with a nut allergy, since toffee candies may contain almonds or be made around nuts.
How to Make Better Than Sex Cake

- Bake the cake. Prepare the Devil’s food cake mix according to the package directions for a 9×13-inch pan. Let the cake cool for about 15 minutes.

- Poke and fill. Use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes evenly over the warm cake, about halfway down. Stir together the sweetened condensed milk and caramel topping, then slowly pour it over the cake so it sinks into the holes.

- Chill and spread. Cover and refrigerate the cake until completely cooled. This gives the caramel filling time to soak in and makes the cake easier to frost. Spread whipped topping over the chilled cake.

- Top and serve. Sprinkle chopped Heath or Skor candy bars on top. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
Recipe Tips
- Don’t poke all the way through the cake. The filling should settle into the cake, not pool at the bottom of the pan.
- Pour slowly. Give the caramel mixture time to sink into the holes as you pour.
- Chill before topping. If the cake is still warm, the whipped topping can melt and slide around.
- Add the candy right before serving. This keeps the toffee pieces crunchy.
- Use a 9×13-inch pan. This size gives the right thickness and makes the cake easy to slice for a crowd.
- Make altitude adjustments if needed. Follow the high-altitude instructions on the cake mix box if you live at a higher elevation.
- Use toffee bits to save time. Heath bits from the baking aisle are easier than chopping candy bars.
- For a gooier cake, chill longer. This cake is even better once it has had time to soak in the fridge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Better Than Sex Cake is a chocolate poke cake made with caramel, sweetened condensed milk, whipped topping, and chopped toffee candy bars. The filling soaks into the cake and makes it extra moist, while the whipped topping and candy add a creamy, crunchy finish.
Yes! If you want a more family-friendly name, call it Better Than Anything Cake, Better Than You Know What Cake, or Chocolate Caramel Toffee Poke Cake.
Yes, homemade whipped cream cream works well. Just don’t use canned whipped cream because it melts quickly and can make the top of the cake runny.
Yes. Homemade caramel sauce works beautifully in this cake. You can use it warm or cooled, as long as it is pourable enough to soak into the holes.
Heath and Skor bars are both chocolate-covered toffee bars and either one works for this recipe. Skor tends to have a slightly more buttery flavor, while Heath has a classic toffee flavor that is easy to find in most grocery stores.
Yes. Devil’s food cake gives the richest chocolate flavor, but German chocolate cake mix, regular chocolate cake mix, yellow cake mix, or white cake mix can also be used.
The cake can get soggy if the holes go all the way to the bottom, if too much filling pools in one spot, or if it sits too long after being fully assembled. Pour slowly, spread the filling evenly, and enjoy the cake within a couple of days for the best texture.
Yes, you can make Better Than Sex Cake gluten-free by using a gluten-free chocolate cake mix. Also check the labels on the caramel topping, sweetened condensed milk, whipped topping, and candy bars to make sure they are gluten-free. Toffee bars can vary by brand, so gluten-free toffee bits or another certified gluten-free candy topping may be a safer option.

Make Ahead and Storage
Make ahead: Bake the cake and add the caramel filling up to one day ahead. Cover and refrigerate, then add the whipped topping and chopped candy bars before serving.
Storing: Keep the cake covered in the refrigerator. It is best within 2 to 3 days because the topping and cake can get softer the longer it sits.
Freezing: Freeze the baked cake before adding the filling and topping. Wrap it tightly, freeze, then thaw completely before finishing the recipe.
Serving: This cake is best served chilled. Keep it in the fridge until you are ready to slice and serve.
Pairing Ideas
This cake is rich, so I like serving it after a simple dinner or alongside lighter party foods. It goes well with recipes like Grilled Balsamic Chicken, Tomato Basil Pasta, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, or a big Chef Salad and Breadtwists.

Can I freeze this cake?
You can freeze the cake, but not the topping. For best results thaw the cake in the refrigerator overnight and add the topping just before serving. Thank you for asking!
Looks great, going to make it.
i made this cake for my workplace, i work in a hospital as the head cook for patient breakfast and the cafeteria, so i found this recipe totally by accident and loved the name, and therefore i made it!! It was a complete hit with everyone!! They loved it, so sweet and moist.. Will definitely make again
One of my most favorite cakes ever. After I pour the sweetened condensed milk and caramel mixture, I put it back in the oven for 5 minutes to set those toppings a little more. It makes it more gooey and less runny. And everyone fights to scrape the sides of the pan to get the caramelized goodness.
If I wanted to use homemade caramel, what recipe would work for this cake.
You could use the recipe for caramel sauce from our dessert sauces post: https://www.favfamilyrecipes.com/3-dessert-dipping-sauces/#wprm-recipe-container-20039
Hi so I recently made your BETTER THAN SEX CAKE for my friends bday WITH A FEW INTERSTING CHANGES FOR A EVEN MORE AMAZING TASTE ..SO I STARTED with the devils food cake mix, MIXING accord. then I added a pckg if dry instant choc pudding,2 eggs and water and baked accord. FOLLOWED BY poking the holes on top of the cake, carefully pouring the combined condensed milk and caramel sauce covering entire cake, I let it set then as for frosting I combined whipped butter, powdered sugar and finely chopped candy bars together then spread over entire cake the sprinkled with CHUNKS OF HEATH SKOR AND BUTTERFINGER CANDY BARS THEN DRIZZLE CHOC AND CARAMEL SYRUP, REFRIGERATE. It was so good THANK YOU SINCERELY!
There are tree nuts in both Heath and Skor bars. Toffee in America generally always has almonds or nuts of some sort.
This cake looks so rich and decadent. I love how easy it is to make. Putting on my to do list for tomorrow!
My mom made this and it is perfection!
This cake makes a great dessert for any occasion and is always one of the first one to go! So yummy!
Is there anything more you could want in a cake?! I don’t think so! This has such amazing ingredients and flavor. YUM!
I’m not a cake eater but I have to try this one, I am going to add pecans in the mix. Thank you!
The title of this recipe couldn’t be more accurate! SO GOOD!!!
This cake is amazing and so easy to make.
Oh man, this was amazing! I have room in my mouth for any dessert with a crushed up Heath bar.
This is called “Earthquake Cake” in a cookbook I have. It is so good.
Earthquake cake has coconut flakes, pecans and cream cheese, usually. 😊
Can you make this the day before and refrigerate overnight?
You can, although I would recommend waiting to frost and top the cake until right before you serve it. Otherwise it may be too soggy.
I love this recipe! My son wants this for graduation, which means I need to make about 10 of them! Can I make and freeze ahead of time? Before I freeze it should I drizzle the sweetened condensed milk and carmel on it, or make the cake, poke the holes, freeze, unthaw and then do the sweetened condensed milk and carmel?
Oh man, these are all great questions. If it were me, I would freeze right after baking. I would thaw completely and then poke holes and add the remaining ingredients. My concern about doing the holes before freezing would be the cake drying out. Hope this helps!
I loved this cake, I will definitely be making it again.
We love this cake. Skor bars do contain roasted almonds for anyone with nut allergies. My daughter-in-law has severe allergic allergies…..so I made this and will only put skor bar after she takes her piece.
It’s sweet that all those “extras” are already made!
what size can of condensed milk do you use? The very small can or 8 oz.?
8 oz
This is the best cake. Can I make this ahead and freeze it for a day or two?
Or, how long can I make the complete cake (including the cool whip topping) and refrigerate prior to serving? I need to make it two days in advance.
To make this about 1700 times better start with homemade cake and make your own whipped cream. It is worth the extra time, really good.
I’m making this for work tomorrow, but I don’t have fridge space at home. Can I make the cake tonight, put on the sweetened condensed milk and caramel, and leave it on the counter overnight? Then I would put the whipped topping on in the morning. Would that work? Thanks!
I don’t know if I would leave it on overnight… Is it still pretty cold where you are? You may want to store it where it is cooler like in a garage or outside.
I would not leave it on the counter overnight. you can make room in fridge, My hubby always makes room for me putting stuff up.
One of my favorite cakes. I’m going to make this cake for a work luncheon. If I make it the night before and put it in the fridge would it be ok until Lunch the next day or should I freeze it the night before and let it thaw? What’s your preference on this?
Yes, it will be totally fine. Just make sure it is covered well so it doesn’t dry out. You don’t need to freeze it. I actually like it best the next day anyway 😉
I make a similar cake using a yellow cake mix. Can of crushed pineapple (drained – keep the juice), container of cool whip – softened.
After baking cake, remove from oven and immediately pour the drained pineapple juice over the hot cake. Put cake into frig for a couple of hours. Mix the soft (but cold) cool whip with crushed pineapple and smoth over cold cake.
I call this my “Pig Pickin'” cake.
I’m Canadian so I don’t know if that has anything to do with the name but our version of Better Than Sex Cake is totally different. I think people just like calling it that for fun. I call this kind of dessert a slush cake. Our version if this cake has bananas, graham cracker crust, a sweet filling of whipping cream and pudding and cherries on top. Almost like a big ice box cake. Both are delicious!
My family of 9 is coming for my 52nd birthday, and they are bringing the dinner. I’m making this cake and calling it “Johnny Depp Cake”, after the pirate and the reader who called it Robert Redford or Tom Selleck Cake. We have to change with the times, you know? At this age, I think it WILL taste better than you-know-what. Haha (I just hope nobody ever calls it Justin Beiber Cake)! No matter the name this cake is amazing.
LOL… I definitely like “Johnny Depp Cake” the best 😀
Gotta try this for sure for a potluck party! Thanks Ladies!
Can you freeze this cake?
You can freeze it before putting all the toppings on, then thaw it out and add all the toppings 🙂
I’m making this right now for my daughter’s 4th birthday today. 🙂 I have heard of this recipe for many years but have never had the chance to try it. I’m sure it will be a hit!
Thank you! I can’t wait to try this.
Can you replace the condensed milk with anything else?
If you don’t want to use sweetened condensed milk, you can just use extra caramel or butterscotch topping. It works just as well. When I first started making this cake, that is all that I used. Thank you for asking!
So yummy! I also have a recipe called “Better than Sex” cake, but instead of actual cake, it calls for chocolate pudding, and the crust/topping is nuts. Anyone else tried this version?
It looks amazing but I don’t understand why so many desserts use packet mix? Why not make the cake from scratch? So many American recipes do this- does no one bake in the states? I’m going to try it but actually make the cake myself – you guys should try it!
Sounds like a fantastic idea! Let us know what you come up with, we would love to hear how it turns out! If you want a really great from-scratch cake, try our coconut cake 😉 Click here: /coconut-cream-cake-with-coconut-cream.html
Yes, I did but I used heath bar bits instead of nuts. I took it to work and everyone s a I’d it was to die for. It must have been, a lot of people didn’t get any!!!!!
We Americans do bake from scratch, it is so much better. No store bought cakes here. Unfortunately what you see and what we do is two completely different things. I am making sure my Grandkids are learning how to bake like I did with my Grandmother and Mom. ❤
We Americans do Bake! This was only another choice. Don’t jump to conclusions.
I have made this several times however I use hot fudge topping with smashed up malted milk balls. A huge hit among young adults.
Great idea! Mmm, that sounds so good!!! We will have to try it with the malt balls next time!
I can’t wait to make this! Can anybody help… we do not get SKOR bars in Singapore. What can I replace this with? Thanks
Do you have HEATH bars? They are essentially the same as a SKOR bar. It is a toffee candy bar covered in milk chocolate – similar to English Toffee. In the U.S. you can also get toffee bits that are used for baking, and these work really well too.
I just finish making this cake for my Birthday. Thank you for the recipe!
I hope it turned out great! Happy Birthday!
This sounds so good and delicious so i will make it for my Church dinner after our service !! I’m so grateful for the share and all of the compliments on this truly amazing Cake Love The Way It Sounds Just So Scrumptious and Yummy Yours Truly Joy B.
Thanks so much for your comment! Hope everyone at your church enjoys it! 😀
I make this cake ALL the time for events and I NEVER come home with any! The only difference I do is that use a chocolate cake mix and 12 oz of diet coke and mix it together and back as directed! You can very it with dr. pepper or cherry coke, ect!! you can not even taste that it was made with diet coke and I get asked the recipe ALL the time!!
How much coke do you put in?
This recipe doesn’t call for coke… did you mean to ask this question on another recipe?
I love this cake too and have made it often. It’s always a hit. I do one thing differently, however. I mix half the jar of caramel sauce with the sweetened condensed milk before pouring it over the cake. Oh YUM!!
I make it at Halloween and we call it the Gooey Goblin Cake! I always buy a bag of Heath toffee bits for the top…costs less and is a lot easier than pulverizing Heath bars!
Oh Diane– great idea! I had no idea there was such a thing! THANK YOU!
Great cake, always a crowd pleaser. I use the fork method instead of the handle of the wooden spoon, and use hot fudge ice cream topping instead of caramel topping. I always freeze the Heath Bars in the wrapper then take a hammer to them while they are still wrapped. This makes less of a mess. Then I sprinkle the candy from the wrapper onto the cake. Ellen.
I can hardly wait to make this cake for Easter!! I’m wondering if it would work in 2- 9″ round cake pans to form in the shape of a bunny or if all the gooey stuff is better in the 9 x 13′ pan??
I haven’t tried that but let us know how it goes! Sounds like a fun idea!
This looks great and very easy to make. I will be trying it out for Easter this year as I am responsible for the dessert.
The SWEETENED condensed milk makes it a little too sweet for me. I use Mrs RICHARDSON’S CARAMEL FUDGE ice cream topping, heated a little , then cool whip and candy bars, so good!!
Made this for my family Easter celebration this year and it was a HUGE success! Everyone had seconds! Not sure if it was better then you-know-what though…(lol)
This is the best cake ever!
I was in a hurry, poked the holes then added the condensed milk etc..right away..waiting now for it to cool..hope I didn’t ruin it..after I’ll put the cream on and its in the fridge..has anyone else done that..please say it was okay…thanks
We call it “Holy Cow Cake” because when you eat it, you say, Holy Cow, that is so delicious!
Can it be frozen for mail out purposes?
I’m not sure, I haven’t tried that. It might be easier to mail the ingredients with directions on how to make it.
I made this yummy cake 5 times already but I also put Oreo cookies on top of it and it’s so delicious….
We call it ALMOST better than Sex cake. We laugh at those who call it “Better than” 🙂
We fork the cake but not all the way to the bottom, and drizzle sweetened condensed milk, a jar of caramel sauce, and a jar of chocolate fudge sauce, then keep it refrigerated over night. The next day right before serving, cool whip with crumbled SKOR bar all over it. I even mix in a dry pistachio pudding mix in with the cool whip sometimes. So GOOD!!
I see a lot of people are having a hard time finding Skor bars as I was. I decided to take teh ten minutes extra and make my own toffee at home. Worked great and it always tastes better when you know its all been made at your own hand.
Wow, marvelous blog! How long have you been blogging? This cake is my new favorite!
Thank you! We have been doing this for about 6 years.
When I don’t have sweetened condensed milk I omit it and it turns out great. I use Mrs. richardson’s butterscotch caramel. I am not a fan of score bar so I top with crushed Oreos. Yum… My husband calls this score cake with or without the candy bar.
Hi, I know it’s been eleventy months since you posted this, but I’m thinking about making this because I read somewhere that it’s also called “Slap yo momma twice cake” and I want to gift it to my mom and call it that. 😛 The problem is that I live in Greece and we don’t have skor bars here… Would something like twix do? Or snickers? I can’t think of many alternatives, but it seems to me like these two would fit…
Sure any of those would work… I just like the crunch of stor bars. Maybe try any other kind of chocolate covered toffee… Or butterfinger would probably be ok too.
What size can of milk?
There’s glutten free and sugar free cake mixes offered by betty crocker brand and other brands at walmart for those asking for healthier conversions. other ingredients you could probably go light on cool whip or instant light pudding vanilla or banana mix i imagine works well too.
Just made this for my cousins birthday party tonight!! I’ve tried it once before! Thanks for posting it so I could get the recipe!
This recipe is also very good with the chocolate eagle brand sweet and condensed milk!
I have been making this cake for years! It’s my kids favorite, but we have always called it Butterfinger Cake because I’ve always used yellow cake mix and butterfinger candy bars on top. The rest is the same. I always put it in the refrigerator overnight and put the cool whip and candy bars on right before serving. We think it’s always better a day or two later….more gooey!! YUMMY!!!
I use butterfinger candy bars and either butterscotch or caramel ice cream topping. I do not use the sweetened condensed milk and it is heavenly:) In fact several members of the family request this cake for their Birthday every year. Great recipe!
This is different “better than sex cake” my momma used to make and i miss it so much. This looks delicious though, so I will make this and try it out.
This looks so yummy!!!
Can you make it the night before you need it?
You can, but it will begin to get a little soggy. It is best made the day you will be serving it.
Making this for the first time–our kid friendly name is “Better than Hockey” cake. Can’t wait!
Do you think it would be ok to use something besides cool whip, like some other type of frosting or cream filling? I want to make this for my boyfriend but he’s not a huge fan of cool whip. This cake looks so good!
You could try doing regular whipped cream, that would probably be the closest thing to cool whip. I think frosting would make it too rich. Maybe cheesecake flavored pudding….
I just made this tonight and LOVE it! I DELICIOUS!
I have made this cake for years (over15) but i always used yellow cake…. Its still just as good.
I save this for very special events. I made it for work for a United Way auction and it won $50 for the contribution. I also use it for whenever I want to thank someone for doing a great job. They are so amazed that someone makes cakes I dare not say how easy it is.
Great fun.
Thank you to Erica also!
You are very welcome! I’m glad you like it!
This is the best cake ever. I have made this probably 5 times this summer. Everyone loves it. I am making it again today for another cookout. Thank you for PInterest.
We want to make this into cupcakes and freeze until being served next week, any comments?
So left over cake should be stored in the fridge or room temperature?
Definitely in the fridge.
I would like to make this Thursday to serve on Saturday?
Any problem?
The cake will be fine to make on Thursday and serve on Saturday. Keep it covered and in the refrigerator. Add the cool whip and toppings just before serving. It will be great!
OMG..this is sooooo delicious.
I plan to make this for a picnic. Sounds fantastic! I was wondering how it is to cut. Maybe should just spoon it out? I think that would work ok. What’s you’re opinion?
You should be able to cut it with a knife and serve it up, but spooning it out would work fine too!
If I don’t have sweeten condense milk. Can I substitute with evaporated milk? Or just not add milk, since I don’t have any?
Sorry, you need to use sweetened condensed milk for it to turn out properly.
U can puncture the lid of the evaporated milk and simmer it in water level halfway up the can for 1hour and it will make caramel sauce similar to sweetened condensed milk. Pour it over the cake Uncooked Evaporated milk would make a soggy cake.
I used Butter Pecan Cake Mix (because I was out of chocolate). It was delicious too!!! It is a favorite at my house.
This cake is a huge hit with my family & friends. Every time we have get together’s I already know what I’m supposed to bring. I have also used this with yellow cake mix & butterfingers. It is good as well. It’s hard to find Heath Bars around here for some reason so if I can’t find them I have used Snicker bars & Recces Bits as well.
Ever tried it with butterscotch instead of carmel…mmmmmmmmm that was a hit also
Do you think that I could use strawberry (raspberry?) syrup instead of the caramel and omit the crushed candy bar on top??? I am thinking of making this for my friends birthday party and she isn’t fond of chocolate candy of caramel… any tips???
Honestly, you can use whatever you would like! I have never done it before but it sounds like it could be good!
It is so good! have a similar recipe, use a butter pecan cake mix instead of the chocolate, omit the whipped cream and add chopped skor bars to the top after you pour the sweetened milk on it. The bars melt on the top of the cake. Toooo DIE for!!!!
Thanks for all the replys. I could not find skor candy bars. Glad to know I can use reeses peanut butter cups or health. Thanks again
I am from Cushig, OK
Lois
Does it have to stay refrigerated after you make it? I want to make this for a staff get together at work but there won’t be a refrigerator there.
I like it best refrigerated but room temp isn’t bad. The cake is more moist at room temp so that’s a plus I guess!
love love love this cake! We are making it for my birthday tomorrow (as we have for every other birthday!!) My mom always called it “better than tom selleck cake” growing up… : )
I just made this tonight and LOVE it! I folded the cool whip into a little bit of instant vanilla pudding (just like with jello cake) to give it a little extra creaminess and flavor. DELICIOUS! 🙂
Will you please email me the jello cake recipe? It sounds great! Email: 4mystical10@bellsouth.net
Hello,
I’m Australian and I tried this recipe last night with Tim Tams (chocolate covered biscuits very popular here) and it was fanbloodytastic. Have a good week!
Regards,
Sharon Ann
Ok just put the cake in the oven..I got this from pintrest…looking for a fun bday cake for my Husband tonight,I hope it comes out as good as it looks!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much
I am trying to find a healthier recipe for Easter for my inlaws..They told me to bring a dessert but it cannot be healthy. So just to prove them wrong I want to make something “healthier”. Do you think there is a way to tweak this to make it “Healthier?
Becky– I don’t know what to tell you! I don’t know how to make this healthy without taking away from the taste! Maybe use light whipped topping and applesauce instead of oil in the cake mix? That is all I can come up with off the top of my head. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
You can use light or sugar-free whipped topping, caramel, sweetened condensed milk. They even have low-sugar chocolate cake. It doesn’t make it “healthy,” but healthier.
If you are a coconut fan, I would pour coconut milk over the cake instead of sweetened condensed milk. use sugar free caramel syrup, melt down dark dark chocolate bars and drizzle over, use berries instead of candy bars (rasberries, blueberries, chopped strawberries). You can stick with cool whip, but I would whip up my own heavy whipping cream (it is considered a “healthy” fat 🙂
I have to stay away from sugar and starch so to make this recipe I’m making my own chocolate cake w/coconut flour and unsweetened cocoa powder sweetened with xylitol. Haven’t tried it yet but I’m excited to!
This is has been a long time family favorite…. in the old days it was also known as the Robert Redford cake…
When my daughter went off to college, she called home for the recipe and I couldn’t, in good concious pass it along to her with its “sinful” name to make for her college roommates…. and since she was too young to know Robert Redford movies, I quickly called it the Tom Selleck Cake and it’s been known by that ever since…
Ha ha ha
Everyone who eats this loves it and who doesn’t love Tom Selleck!!!
We make this cake but call it PMS cake. It is delish!!!!!!
Has anyone done this in a cupcake? Does it work or make the papers soggy? TIA!
My sister in law first introduced me to this cake and its now my absolute favorite! I love this cake 😀 I don’t think I have met anyone thats tried it that did not like it!
I’ve made this hundreds of times and call it Better Than Sex Cake. It’s always a hit and so simple to make. Yum yum!
Could you use real whip cream for the topping?
I haven’t tried that but I am sure it would work!
Don’t use real whip cream from the can because it melts quickly and makes a mess. You want to use tub whipped topping.
Cool Whip
Or put a little bit of gelatin into the fresh whip cream to stabilize it for a day.
I made this and it was amazing! I got it off Pinterest. I wanted to share on facebook, but I can’t seem to do it. Actually, this is one of the best desserts I have made. I am a pie lover, but this is over the top!
Love this, simple and tasty…I replaced the whipped topping with Whipped Cream instead…YUMMO!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT
I make this with other kinds of candy bars and it is great!!!! This is an easy cake to make and pretty hard to mess up. LOVE IT!!!!!
Making this for my dad’s birthday tomorrow! Can’t wait!
Boy, does this sound delicious! I am following your blog!
How do you do the coconut tres leche style cake? Big fan of coconut!
You should try the pinacalada cake. You use coconut milk in the holes then cover with a can of crushed pineapple drained and cover top with coconut.
Bake a yellow cake.
Yum! That sounds amazing. I will try it – I love pineapple and coconut. Thank you for the idea… it may be an upcoming post!
Pina colada cake also has a can of Eagle Brand, and coconut cream poured over cake, then the crushed pineapple, coconut ,cool whip and more coconut.
in LOVE this cake but i make it with butterfinger ITS TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!
That’s what i would use, too. maybe mix in some babyruths, too.
Wow – this is quite the cake! Definitely a treat…I treated myself to this cake to celebrate finishing grad school. It's super delicious and easy to make!
I always refrigerate mine over night. It is much better that way. And it doesn't get soggy…just gooey! Yum!
Do you think this cake would do ok in the fridge overnight or would it get too soggy? Should I hold off on toppings until closer to serving it?
I put the last one in over night and put the cool whip and topping on before I went to outing.
We couldn't find any Skor bars at our grocery store in Maryland so we used heath bars and a few cinnamon covered pecan toffee pieces. Everyone just loved this!! It reminds me of a coconut tres leche style cake that I make with the condensed milk being poured into holes in the cake. I used to not like cake because they can be try, with the milk poured into the cake holes I am a cake fan again!
Yep!
Can I use homemade whipping cream or should I use cool whip?
You can use homemade… cool whip is just easiest!
Looks AMAZING! I've been meaning to try and make this one. Thanks for the recipe! I always trust your recipes!! 🙂 So by whipped topping do you mean 'Cool Whip'?
Is the cake soggy at all? It looks amazing!
It is amazing! No is the answer if cake gets soggy….When you put it back in the fridge, it hardens back up…It is soooo good! Im making it right now! You must try 🙂
much better to put fork holes in the cake instead of giant holes… this is also how you make jello cake (minus the chocolate and carmal and candy bars) but so devine in it’s own right … yummmmmmm
I tried it with fork holes, but it didn’t adsorb as well. Probably because Jello is thinner. That said, I use a chop stick instead of al thick wooden spoon handle and space them fairly evenly.
One thing that I do differently is that I add Hot Fudge AS WELL as the Caramel! It makes it so so good :)!
This cake is a family favorite in both mine and my husband's families, the only difference is that his family has always called it "Better Than Sex Cake" while my family calls it "ALMOST better than sex cake." I've always gotten a kick out of that comparison.
Love this cake too..but my husband calls it “better after sex” cake..haha…
Thats what ive always heard it called except they call it better then anything cake on the back of German chocolate cake mix! So delicious!
You have to try forking up the whole cake (instead of holes)and then drizzling-it makes it more uniform and awesome. Also freezing this cake takes it to a whole new level. I also like to put the heath bars on the cake before and after the whipped cream. It is a hit every time. One of my favorites-can you tell? 🙂
Christi and Clifton ~ You said that freezing it takes it to a whole new level. Did you eat it frozen then or did you let it start to thaw? I thought about making this and freezing it, due to time. Then the morning I was going to use it, pull it out of the freezer and let it thaw till lunch time. I didn’t know how the cake would thaw. I didn’t want it to ruin the yumminess of the cake. Thanks.
Sounds terribly SWEET!
People that have baked it…..is it?
Yes it does, yummy
I love this cake so much, but sometimes I make it with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups instead of Skor bars and it is AMAZING!!
I do too! And I have a recipe where you put I believe 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips into the cake mix after it’s mixed well and then once you poke the holes put 1 jar hot fudge sauce and 1 jar caramel sauce (I heat them up just a bit) and then the whipped cream on top once cooled and top with reese cups! its wonderful!
Would like this recipe sounds great
i I love this recipe. Can’t wait to make it.
This recipe is amazing I love it !!!!
Like your recipe better than the sweetened condensed milk.
Thanks 😀
I made this with a yellow cake and topped it with hersey gold bsrs and pretzel broke up. My friend is alergic to chocolate so we call this the better than naked sex cake.
Hahaha I love that!!!!
Me too
Are you using the hot fudge in place of the condensed milk?
I love this cake. Does anyone think that this recipe could be altered for Valentine’s Day? Maybe use a Red Velvet Cake with choc. chips, cream cheese icing (heated) melted into the holes, and maybe some pink tinted cool whip with a cherry pie filling topping and maybe some chopped walnuts??
Of course , use a hot fudge drizzle also.
I think that would be delicious! Great idea!
This in replace of the condensed milk? Hot fudge and caramel?
I use Butterfinger candy bars. Amazing!
id love to have that receipe plz sounds devine
Just made this cake using the original recipe and absolutely love it! I will also try the different toppings that have been said in the comment. I think this recipe has endless possibilities !! Thank you
if you look by the chocolate chips there are bags of Heath bar bits. I don’t know for sure what they are called but that is what I use on “Death by Chocolate”. I am making the (I am going to call it) OMG cake for a family reunion tomorrow..can not wait!
