Questions
We recommend cooking chicken breasts on low in the crockpot when possible. On high, the chicken dries out and tends to be more tough.
It is not necessary to brown the chicken before slow cooking in most of our recipes. The only recipe that requires browning first is our General Tso’s Chicken.
Yes, and the overcooked chicken will be tough and dry. It is best to cook chicken breasts on low and check them after 2 hours. Internal temperature of the chicken should not exceed 165 degrees before letting the chicken rest.
How to Make Crockpot Shredded Chicken
Easy Crockpot Shredded Chicken
Equipment
- Crockpot
Ingredients
- 4 chicken breasts
- 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons Montreal chicken seasoning (or salt and pepper, to taste)
- 4 tablespoons butter (optional)
Instructions
- Place chicken breasts in the bottom of the crockpot.
- Add chicken broth and top chicken with seasonings and butter.
- Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours. After 3 hours, check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. The chicken should be between 155 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit (the temperature will continue to heat as it rests, so it's fine to remove it before it reaches the full 165 degrees).
- Remove chicken from crockpot and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. Shred with forks or meat claws.
- Return shredded chicken to Crockpot and combine with juices and keep warm until ready to serve.
