No bake pies are a delicious (and easy) dessert for any occasion, and this pie is no exception. I was invited to a Thanksgiving pie dessert buffet last Thanksgiving and this pie was the first to go. Everyone loved it! I had never thought of including a peanut butter pie with the traditional pumpkin and apple pies I make at Thanksgiving, but it has definitely made the cut. However, Thanksgiving will not be the only day it shines! The cool creaminess of this easy dessert makes it an ideal dessert choice any time of the year.
No Bake Peanut Butter Pie Ingredients
Very simple ingredients whip together to create this easy and oh, so delicious peanut butter pie! Here’s all you need:
- Cream cheese – make sure it’s softened to room temperature. Softened cream cheese whips up so much easier using a stand mixer and whisk attachment.
- Peanut butter – any brand of peanut butter works great (Skippy, Jif, etc) or use a natural peanut butter for this easy peanut butter pie recipe.
- Powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
- Milk – you can use half and half or heavy cream too.
- Vanilla extract
- Heavy whipping cream – you can also use extra whipping cream to make a homemade whipped cream to top the pie.
- Pre-made chocolate pie crust (or make your own, see recipe below)
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – you can also garnish with Reese’s pieces, or drizzle with chocolate syrup.
Peanut Butter Pie Crust Options
Although the creamy peanut butter pie filling is a perfect match for a chocolate cookie crust, it doesn’t need to be limited to chocolate. There are many delicious options, including:
- This recipe uses a Chocolate Graham Cracker Crust – which we definitely recommend as the first choice for this pie. You can use a pre-baked crust or make your own in a regular sized pie pan. (recipe below)
- Graham Cracker Pie Crust – The combination of graham crackers and peanut butter is fabulous! Have you ever tried spreading peanut butter on a graham cracker? You get the idea. Graham cracker crumbs, chopped peanuts, or peanut butter chips are all great garnishes.
- Oreo Crust – Purchased or homemade. Use crushed Oreos in place of the chocolate graham crackers in the recipe below. The dark chocolate flavor brings a richness to the pie. Save some crushed Oreos to garnish the top.
- Vanilla Wafer Pie Crust – For a milder cookie crust, Vanilla Wafers are just the ticket. As with the traditional pie crust, the vanilla wafer crust really brings out the peanut butter flavor in the pie. Use crushed Vanilla Wafers in place of the chocolate graham crackers in the recipe.
Homemade Chocolate Pie Crust
Can’t find a pre-baked pie crust or simply just feel like making your own? It’s so easy! Here’s how to make your own chocolate pie crust for this recipe:
- Mix 1 ¼ cups chocolate graham cracker crumbs and ¼ cup granulated sugar together in a bowl. You can make your own chocolate graham cracker crumbs by placing chocolate graham crackers in a blender or food processor and pulsing until the crackers are finely crushed.
- Pour ⅓ cup melted butter over the mixture and stir well.
- Spread crumb mixture in a 9-inch pie plate, press the crumbs firmly to form an even crust on the bottom and sides of the pie dish.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 4-5 minutes. Cool completely before filling.
Peanut Butter Pie Variations and Topping Ideas
This easy peanut butter pie no bake recipe is prefect as-is, but sometimes it’s fun to switch things up a but. Try one of these:
- Top with a little whipped cream or whipped topping (cool whip)
- Add a little drizzle of chocolate topping, chocolate fudge, or caramel over the top
- Don’t like peanut butter cups? Try it with Reese’s pieces or just cut up candy bar. Butterfinger, Twix, Snickers, or plain Hershey’s bars or chocolate chips are all great options.
- Chopped peanuts or toffee bits can add a nice crunch to this no bake peanut butter pie recipe.
- Sliced banana also goes well with peanut butter. If using banana, it will taste best to use a regular graham cracker crust instead of the chocolate.
