Fast and Flavorful Burger Patties

I love the ease and convenience of making Air Fryer Hamburger Patties at home. Nothing beats the idea of enjoying a juicy burger on a summer day by the pool, but when I need a quick weeknight meal, my air fryer saves the day! I can whip up these delicious patties in less than 20 minutes and top them with all my favorites—whether it’s chips, fries, veggies, a slice of watermelon, or a fresh salad.

This Air Fryer Hamburger Patties recipe has quickly become a family favorite in my kitchen. The air fryer uses forced air to heat the patty evenly, sealing in all the juices and making each bite irresistibly tender. I truly believe that air-fried hamburgers are the best way to enjoy a classic burger, and I love that everyone can customize their own perfect dinner with their favorite toppings.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Hamburgers

  • Burger Patties – Because this is a quick and easy recipe, I like to keep it simple with pre-made hamburger patties. You can absolutely make your own homemade burger pattie with lean ground beef. Just make sure they aren’t too thick. You can also use veggie burgers or turkey burgers.
  • Seasoning Salt – The seasoning possibilities are endless. We love to add a rich, savory, and flavorful seasoning to the hamburger patties during cooking.
  • Buns – You can use sesame buns, pretzel buns, brioche buns, or opt for a lettuce wrap! Or take your burgers to the next level with these light, pillowy Homemade Hamburger Buns made with easy ingredients from your pantry!

Toppings

  • Protein – Bacon, fried eggs, pastrami, and ham all make great burger additions.
  • Cheese – If you are making air fryer cheeseburgers, then opt for melty cheeses like cheddar cheese, Swiss, American cheese, or pepper jack. You can also sprinkle on blue cheese as a topping after the burger is cooked.
  • Lettuce – Chopped lettuce, bib lettuce, or romaine lettuce gives a refreshing and light crunch in every bite.
  • Pickles – Sliced pickles add that extra flavor and crunchy texture. Try sweet, dill, or butter pickles for more flavor.
  • Tomatoes – Slice a tomato into slices to lay flat on the burger. Thin slices are best to give room for other toppings and not be mushy on the bun.
  • Avocado – Slice an avocado or smash your avocado for a delicious homemade guacamole.
  • Jalapenos – Add a little spice to your burger with some heat from sliced jalapenos.
  • Onions – These pickled red onions explode with flavor and tang, and will add a delicious zip to any taco, salad, or sandwich. Carmelized onions or chopped or sliced raw onions are always delicious too!
  • Easy Sauteed Mushrooms Sautéed mushrooms can be served as a side dish or as a flavorful addition to your favorite pasta or protein dishes.

Sauces

  • Fry Sauce If you don’t know what fry sauce is, then you are missing out! Mix a few simple ingredients and you will never dip your fries in anything else again!
  • Chick-fil-A Sauce Our copycat Chick-fil-A Sauce tastes like the real deal. So easy and has only four ingredients!
  • Red Robin Campfire Sauce This Red Robin Campfire Sauce tastes exactly like the smoky sauce at a popular restaurant. Make it at home and enjoy that tangy taste on your burgers, fries, and more. Only two ingredients!
  • Other Sauces – So many sauce options when it comes to burgers – ketchup, mustard, mayo, BBQ sauce, teriyaki sauce, Thousand Island dressing, aioli, and more!

How to Make the Best Air Fryer Hamburger Patties

  1. Lay in basket – Place two patties in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are not touching each other and only put down a single layer of patties. Sprinkle each patty with 1 tsp of seasoning salt.
  2. Air fry – Preheating the air fryer to 360 for 4 minutes. Flip and bake for 4 more minutes.
  3. Add cheese – If adding cheese, place a slice of cheese on each patty. Bake for an additional minute.
  4. Serve with toppings – Serve on buns with your favorite toppings and sauces.

Seasoning Your Air Fryer Hamburgers

We probably season our burgers differently every time. Sometimes we keep it simple with just salt and pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Other times we want to try out a new burger seasoning or sprinkle on a couple of our favorite seasonings. When it comes to burgers, you don’t need to overcomplicate things. We don’t add eggs, breadcrumbs, or any other fillings to our meat. Season the beef right before cooking in the air fryer.

Let Your Hamburgers Rest

This is where a lot of the magic happens. After your burgers have cooked, put them on a plate or platter and cover them with some foil. This will allow the juices to release and also allow the flavors to really infuse the hamburger patties. You don’t need to wait long, only about 5 minutes is all. It’s worth the wait!

Questions About Air Fryer Hamburgers

Can you cook frozen burger patties?

Yes! You can use frozen burger patties to make this dinner even easier! Just extend the cooking time by 2-5 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 145-160 degrees F.

What should the internal temperature be for hamburgers?

According to the USDA, the recommended temperature is 160 degrees F for a burger to be “done”. If you like your burgers to be closer to medium or medium rare, then you can aim for 145 degrees F. Always use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of your meat before serving.

Are air fryer hamburgers healthier?

Since hamburgers aren’t typically fried with oil, the healthiness of the burger doesn’t change. Make your burgers healthier by opting for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun!

Can I cook with aluminum foil in the air fryer?

For this recipe, you do not need to use foil but you can if wanted. An air fryer is similar to an oven, only smaller. The heat is circulated around a tight space by a fan. This makes it safe to use foil in the air fryer.
