What is Chick-Fil-A Sauce?

Chick-Fil-A sauce is the signature dipping sauce from the popular chicken restaurant. It is most commonly served with their famous chicken nuggets and waffle fries. It tastes similar to honey mustard sauce but with a little more “zing”. Enjoy this famous sauce in the comfort of your own home with this spot-on copycat recipe!

What is Chick-Fil-A Sauce Made Of?

This recipe uses four simple ingredients that you probably already have in your fridge or pantry. It is so easy and quick to whip up a fresh batch and serve with your chicken nuggets or waffle fries. Here’s what you need:

  • Mayonnaise – we always use Best Foods (or Hellmann’s) mayo
  • Mustard – yellow mustard or dijon mustard will work. Dijon gives you more of a kick.
  • Honey
  • Ketchup (or BBQ sauce)

Recreating Chick-Fil-A’s Famous Sauce at Home

In 2012 Chick-Fil-A tweeted the recipe for their famous sauce, saying it was made from honey mustard, barbecue sauce, and ranch sauce. While this may be true, I am assuming they are using their own unique sauces. When making this at home, I couldn’t quite get it to taste right with these particular ingredients. Here’s my results:

Honey Mustard – Obviously this is spot on. Most people will tell you that it just tastes like a creamy honey mustard and they aren’t wrong. This is clearly the stand-out ingredient.

Barbecue Sauce – I tried making this sauce with both BBQ sauce and ketchup. Both versions were very close in taste, but I decided to go with ketchup because it’s what my kids preferred and the taste of ketchup doesn’t vary like different BBQ sauces. The sauce will be more consistent across the board when using ketchup.

Ranch Sauce – Using store-bought ranch dressing or even homemade ranch dressing just didn’t taste right. If Chick-Fil-A uses this in their sauce, it must not be very much. After swapping the ranch out for mayo, the sauce tasted much more accurate to how the actual sauce tastes.

Adjust to Your Liking

If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add a little more honey. For a less sweet taste, reduce the amount of honey or omit it altogether. If you want sauce with a little more of a bite, you can add dijon, brown mustard, or even a little creamy horseradish.

What To Put Chick Fil A Sauce On

Chick-fil-A Sauce is a versatile and delicious condiment that can take a wide range of dishes to the next level. Its creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet flavor makes it an excellent dip for chicken nuggets, tenders, or sandwiches. Drizzle it over grilled chicken, burgers, or salads to add a burst of flavor. Use it as a flavorful spread in wraps, sandwiches, or sliders for an extra touch of deliciousness. This sauce also pairs well with classic sides like french fries, tater tots, or sweet potato fries. This sauce can also go with so many tasty fried (or grilled) finger foods. Here are some of our favorites:

How to Store Homemade Chick-Fil-A Sauce

To store homemade Chick-fil-A Sauce, transfer it to an airtight container, such as a glass jar or a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. Refrigerate the sauce to maintain its freshness and extend its shelf life. Properly stored, this sauce can last in the refrigerator for up to a week. Before using the sauce again, give it a quick stir to ensure the flavors are well combined. Enjoy the convenience of having this delectable sauce on hand to enhance your meals whenever you crave that classic Chick-fil-A flavor. Because mayonnaise doesn’t freeze or thaw well, we don’t recommend freezing this sauce.
