What is Chick-Fil-A Sauce?

Chick-Fil-A sauce is a favorite dipping sauce from the popular restaurant. It is most commonly served with their famous chicken nuggets and waffle fries. It tastes much like honey mustard sauce but with a little more “zing”. Enjoy this famous sauce in the comfort of your own home with this spot-on copycat recipe!

What is Chick-Fil-A Sauce Made Out Of?

For this recipe, we only use four easy ingredients. They are all ingredients you probably have in your fridge or pantry right now. The simplicity of these ingredients makes it so easy to whip up and serve with your chicken nuggets or waffle fries. Here’s what you need:

  • Mayonnaise – we always use Best Foods (or Hellmann’s) mayo
  • Mustard – yellow mustard or dijon mustard will work. Dijon just gives you more of a kick.
  • Honey
  • Ketchup (or BBQ sauce)

Experiment Results

In 2012 Chick-Fil-A tweeted the recipe for their famous sauce, saying it was made from honey mustard, barbecue sauce, and ranch sauce. While this may be true, I am assuming they are using their own, unique sauces. When making this at home, we couldn’t quite get it to taste right with these ingredients. Here’s our results:

Honey Mustard – Obviously this is spot on. Most people will tell you that it just tastes like a creamy honey mustard and they aren’t wrong. This is clearly the stand-out ingredient.

Barbecue Sauce – We tried making this sauce with both BBQ sauce and ketchup. We compared the two and they are very close. We decided to go with ketchup because it’s what my kids preferred and the taste of ketchup doesn’t vary like different BBQ sauces. The sauce will be more consistent across the board when using ketchup.

Ranch Sauce – Using store-bought ranch dressing or even homemade ranch dressing just didn’t taste right. If Chick-Fil-A uses this in their sauce, it must not be very much.

What To Put Chick Fil A Sauce On

This sauce can go with so many tasty fried (or grilled) finger foods. Here are some of our favorites:

How to Store Homemade Chick-Fil-A Sauce

Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. We don’t recommend freezing dips or sauces like this. The mayonnaise doesn’t thaw well.
