2-Ingredient Snack Ideas

These 2-ingredient snack ideas are the perfect solution for hungry kids needing something FAST. You know, for when they are “starving” and can’t wait any longer. These are my go-tos for when I can’t plan ahead for snack time. I almost always have these ingredients in my pantry or fridge and they can be pulled out at a moment’s notice.

  1. Cottage cheese + pineapple (or peaches or cherry tomatoes)
  2. Apples + peanut butter (or almond butter)
  3. Bananas + Nutella (or any kind of nut butter)
  4. Animal crackers + Nutella
  5. Tortilla chips + Homemade Salsa (or Potato Chips and Onion Dip)
  6. Ham + cheese (rolled up)
  7. Easy Homemade Hummus + veggies
  8. Veggies (carrots, celery sticks, broccoli, snap peas, cherry tomatoes, etc…) + Homemade Ranch Dressing
  9. Yogurt + Homemade Granola
  10. Popcorn + shredded cheese
  11. Bagel + cream cheese
  12. Dried fruit + nuts
  13. Ritz crackers + sliced cheese
  14. Graham crackers + Cream Cheese Frosting (we like using leftover frosting from other treats)

Healthy High Protein Snack Ideas

High protein snacks are perfect for kids active in after school sports. These snacks will give them an energy boost that will last through practice and sustain them until dinnertime. The energy bites and protein balls can even be frozen so they can be brought along in the car and eaten on the way to practice! Here are some more of our favorite high-protein healthy snack ideas:

  1. Ham Roll Ups with Pickle
  2. Ants on a log (celery+peanut butter+raisins)
  3. Deviled Eggs
  4. PB & J Energy Bites
  5. Shrimp Taco Bites
  6. Chocolate Protein Balls {No Bake}
  7. Hard Boiled Eggs

Veggie Snacks

When my kids get home from school, they are ravenous. They have had a long day and will literally eat anything I put in front of them. That’s why after school is the PERFECT time to give them a good amount of vegetables. You can simply give them a vegetable tray to pick from or you can try one of these other fun veggie snacks:

  1. Zucchini Pizza Bites (see below)
  2. Caprese Salad with Cherry Tomatoes

  7. Avocado Quesadillas
  8. Baked Zucchini Chips
  9. Sweet Potato Fries and Dip
  10. Crispy Air Fryer French Fries

Fresh Fruit Snacks

I don’t know about you, but usually it isn’t too difficult getting my kids to eat fresh fruit. They love coming home to a cup of fresh berries, and handful of blueberries, or sliced apples but sometimes it’s fun to kick it up a notch and surprise them with one of these tasty fruity treats:

  1. Microwave Baked Apples
  2. Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits
  3. Fresh Fruit with Fruit Dip
  4. Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Chips
  5. Apple Fries with Caramel Cream Dip
  6. Fruit Pizza

  12. Peach Caprese Salad Skewers
  13. Grilled Fruit Kabobs

Savory Finger-Snacks

If we are having a later dinner or the kids get home from school early, I like to give them a snack that is a little more substantial. These snacks are served warm and can all be eaten with their fingers so you don’t have to dirty and plates or silverware. Most of these snack ideas can be made ahead of time and frozen so you can just pull out what you need and warm them up when the kiddos get snack-y.

  1. Chicken Flautas
  2. Homemade Soft Pretzels with Easy Cheese Sauce
  3. Grilled Cheese
  4. Shredded Beef Taquitos
  5. Crisp Bean Burritos
  6. Homemade Mozzarella Sticks
  7. Cheesy Italian Bread
  8. French Bread Pizza

Quick Dips

Sometimes the best snack is a bag of chips and some tasty dip. These dips can all be made in a matter of minutes and they can be made ahead of time for later snacking. Just pull out some chips or crackers and let the kids go wild.

Popcorn and Snack Mixes

These snacks are perfect for lunch boxes or to satisfy the after-school munchies. They can be separated out into individual snack-sized baggies or served in a large bowl to feed a crowd. These are my favorite snacks when friends come over after school. I can just set a big bowl out and let each kiddo take what they like. Every single one of these is a kid-pleaser and some of my favorite snack ideas!

Sweet Treats

Sometimes it’s fun to indulge and give the kids something a little more sweet for their afternoon snack. These are all treats they can run in and grab and run back outside to burn off the sugar rush. These are also great ones to pack in lunch boxes as a “lunch dessert” (as my kids call it).

After-School Cookies

When it comes to snack ideas, cookies are some of my very favorite. I am a little biased because I, myself, just love cookies. I also like cookies as a snack because you can limit each kiddo to just one or two and then send them on their merry way. They are also nice and portable and can be taken in the car to be eaten on the way to after-school activities.

I made the Chocolate one for my sister’s Birthday Cake today. She absolutely loved it, she thought that it was so pretty (I think I need to work on my frosting skills lol). It tastes better than the Nothing Bundt Cakes in my opinion. I also made the Lemon one and it was awesome, my neighbor also thinks that it was better than the original cakes. I have tried other recipes that use a box cake mix and add to it. The results definitely not the same. I did mix the wet ingredients in one bowl and the dry in another then added the dry to the wet slowly. I think that always makes a better cake. I want to try all of them.

    1. That is so great to hear! Glad that you enjoyed it and have found some that your kiddos love! Can’t wait to hear more that you love!

I appreciate this awesome list of snack ideas now that school is in session. Hungry kids all school year long. AND I am thrilled about the zucchini bites. Not only did my kids eat them all, but I felt so good knowing that all the zucchini popping up in every corner of my garden is not only eaten – but ENJOYED enthusiastically by my kiddos. Thanks for great recipes all the time. I always trust whatever you post. They ALWAYS turn out great and family friendly!!
